Crude oil means a mixture of hydrocarbons that exists in liquid phase in natural underground reservoirs and remains liquid at atmospheric pressure after passing through surface separating facilities.
Refineries turn crude oil into usable products such as transportation fuels – gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuels. Gasoline: Designed for internal combustion engines, commonly used in private and commercial vehicles. However, oil resources are not distributed evenly across the globe
There are 4 major types of crude oil:
- Very light oil.
- Light oil.
- Medium oil.
- Heavy fuel oil.
The most common use of crude oil is to create fuels for vehicles of all sizes, as well as for generators, heaters, and other equipment. Through the process of fractional distillation and cracking, this resource supports production in many industries.
The top oil producing countries are Saudi Arabia, Russia, the United States, Iran, and China. In the United States, petroleum is produced in 31 states. Those states that produce the most petroleum are Texas, Alaska, California, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.
